Terrible university. I cannot recommend it. Lectures were so boring. I really hated the campus so much. Really ugly, crowded and unpleasant. Most of the staff weren't helpful at all. Other students mostly not friendly either. I wish I studied somewhere else. No real support for finding a job. It seems that most staff were more interested in failing you than helping you succeed. Also other universities are more lenient / generous when it comes to things like late assignments or supplementary exams.
Especially for international students, Auckland University is so not worth it. Better to study somewhere else. Preferably another country.
Overall
Chose to study here as it's close to home and the "best NZ uni"
Likes:
+ Lots of (business) clubs
+ Some faculties have nice buildings
+ Wide variety of degree/major options
Dislikes:
– Teaching quality (lecturers read off slides)
– Double-pass courses
– Hard to make friends (due to competitiveness and students judging/looking down on other degrees)

Parents chose the University for me, University was cool, job seeking support wasn't the best and had no guide for work or getting work experience. Love the course though, loved the professors, some weren't as great as others, mostly good though. Labs and tutorials were great and good course to come into without prior experience.
Overall
I choose Auckland uni because it was close to family and is one of the top rated university's of NZ. Going into the workforce after university was a bit of a shock, Auck uni didn't have any work placement courses during my years of study, I definitely had a lot more learning to do during my first year of working. What I value most from my university experience is the friendships I made and the critical thinking and evidence based research skills it gave me. If I had to do it all over again I would pick Auckland University again.

Studied engineering at UoA and was not a bad experience at all! Mighty differ from faculty to faculty but for engineering, the courses were mostly well taught and there were a lot of events that were fun and engaging. Lots of great food options (although most were on the pricier side). Overall was a fun 4 years at uni :)

Property and Commerce (finance and accounting)
- because its what i thought i would need to study to make money.
- i liked the friends and how property had its sub-community. I didnt like some of the lecturers (espec in math)

I studied here because all my friends studied here and I heard that their science/health science programs are good. I also know UOA for their good reputation.
I didn't enjoy my course and it made me realise that health science isn't my interest at all. I feel like career wise I could not see myself doing anything related to health science and I didn't want to do a clinic role like nursing.
For this reason, I switched to computer science. But the way it was taught at UOA was strange and I had to write down my code and tutors seem underqualified. The students were also weird...it felt like half were not serious about learning the content. I switched to AUT comp sci as the degree was known to be more practical and you get more support as the classes are smaller. I had abit of a crisis during this year but it only took me a few weeks to settle in and enjoy what I was studying!
I am now employed in my industry and hear my friends miserable stories about being in health care...
W decision made by me i guess....

I chose UoA because it seemed like the better choice at the time. I liked that the buildings were nice and modern. I had a moderate experience at UoA because I attended during COVID and everything was online. The times I did go, I found that the location was really good as it was close to some good places to hang out and eat at. After graduating, I realized that UoA lacks in helping students find a job after your studies, mainly because AUT is able to offer/push you to get an internship/job as apart of their course. Majority of my teachers were good but most were very against the idea of online learning.

Really loved studying nursing at UOA, enjoyed every bit of the lectures and placements. The teaching fellows really ensure that you're well supported throughout the course. I am not who I am today without the endless support I received from my co-students and educators. The cramming before the exam day was the only one I didn't enjoy.

I chose to study Communications (along with media, film and tv) because of my top 2 subjects in high school, which were English and Media. I never really wanted to go to uni, I just wanted to do it just to say I did it and because I didn't really know what to do after I left high school.
I would say that it's a 'fun' degree and if thats all you're really in for, then go for it my guy!!! I really enjoyed the recorded lectures, the intriguing lecture topics, and the interesting mix of people.
what i didnt like about the degree or just the uni in general was that you're literally just a number, you're not really taken care of or you're just out there to fend for yourself. A lot of the lecture content as well were kind of useless, you can learn most of it on your own on youtube or something. Another thing that also ruined the experience for me was that it really was all theory. I was expecting more hands-on stuff, but then again that could just be my fault for not doing enough research. My mentality was "oh if this is an art degree, and its about film and media, then it must be hands-on!" OOOHHH MATE I was so wrong. everything was pretty much essays and group work :)
The uni life was fun i guess
